CKB Eco Fund | Spark - SoMo Pixel Territory Completion Report

Detailed Final Report

Project Background

The SoMo - Pixel Territory project, initiated by community developer Telmo, is a gamified pixel territory application designed to explore consumer-grade applications using native CKB features and the Spore protocol. It was approved for a Spark Program grant of $1,200 equivalent (70% CKB + 30% USDI) in August 2025, with an original plan to deliver a 50×50 testnet MVP and conduct seed user testing within 8 weeks (by October 15, 2025) to validate the economic model under a 1,000–100,000 testnet CKB lock range.

Deliverables & Completion Assessment

The project originally planned to deliver a 50×50 testnet MVP by October 24, 2025, and to simultaneously conduct seed user testing to validate the economic model under a 1,000–100,000 testnet CKB lockup range. The technical portion will be completed and delivered as scheduled on November 7, 2025. Although there were some activities on user testing and community building, they failed to form an effective user acquisition and feedback loop or produce a test report, so the intended economic model validation goal was not achieved.

  • Technical part (100% complete, stable quality but no particular highlights):

    • Successfully deployed the 50×50 testnet application, supporting multi-wallet connections, pixel claiming, viewing, trading, and burning full workflows.

    • Fully implemented the Spore + DOB/0 metadata scheme, Manhattan distance dynamic pricing model, the 1,000–100,000 testnet CKB lockup range, and the burn-and-recycle mechanism.

    • The full frontend and backend code is open-sourced (React + TypeScript / Express.js + PostgreSQL), along with unit tests, API documentation, Spore/DOB user guides and testnet deployment documentation; the code can be run directly.

    • An economic model overview document is provided to help future developers understand and reuse it.

  • User testing and community section (<10% complete):

    • No substantial seed user base has formed (fewer than 10 active test users).

    • No user test report, community feedback summary, or detailed fund usage statement delivered。

  • Overall completion assessment: The technical portion was solidly completed, while the user testing portion was essentially absent. The committee unanimously concluded that the technical output met expectations but did not exceed them, and ultimately agreed to pay the technical portion of the grant.

Review Process & Feedback Integration

Since the project was approved in August, the committee has consistently tracked progress with weekly routine syncs. Technical development during phases W1–W4 was slow but steady; Telmo responded proactively to the committee’s suggestions on UI details. Work during W5–W8, such as user recruitment, was noticeably behind schedule. The committee offered reminders and relevant recommendations, but Telmo only took a few actions before the project closed (for example, posting on Nervos Talk), and because there was too little time these did not attract sufficient attention, so an effective user testing report could not be produced. During the review phase the committee conducted a complete code audit and found the architecture clear and the implementation robust. Good communication and collaboration were maintained throughout the overall review process.

Funding Details

The project received a total of $1,200 in funding (70% CKB + 30% USDI). Based on the price at the time of application (0.00567 CKB/USDT), this equals (148,148 CKB + 360 USDI). Funds are disbursed following the Spark Program principle of “20% at launch, 80% subsequently.”

Conclusion & Outlook

The SoMo - Pixel Territory project has left a runnable, reusable open-source example of a pixel-style game at the technical level for the CKB ecosystem, demonstrating the feasibility of implementing the Spore protocol combined with native CKB features in gamified scenarios. Although user testing and economic model validation were not achieved, the technical output itself still holds demonstrative value and partly fills the gap in consumer applications.

The committee thanks Telmo for his active cooperation and insistence on technical quality throughout the cycle. We hope he can focus on closing the user acquisition and feedback loop on the existing codebase and truly validate the economic model going forward. We believe that these solid technical efforts are precisely the necessary accumulation for CKB consumer applications to move from 0 to 1.
