Rock Web5: Nantang CodeCamp
— Just For Fun and Exploring the Future of Human-Technology Relationships Through Code
In the current crypto industry saturated with financial bubbles and concept speculation, we’re witnessing a growing sense of nihilism. With the endless cycle of token issuance, liquidity mining, and high-leverage speculation, have we forgotten the original vision of blockchain technology? It was meant to be a technological revolution centered on autonomy, transparency, and genuine value creation.
CKB Eco Fund is committed to returning to the spiritual origins of Satoshi Nakamoto’s whitepaper. Building on Bitcoin’s POW consensus and UTXO model, we’re developing a new digital infrastructure for Web5 through protocols like RGB++, Fiber Network, and USDI. This infrastructure combines Web3’s censorship resistance with Web2’s user-friendliness, making technology more engaging, warmer, and truly accessible to everyone.
On March 16, 2025, we’re launching the first stop of our Rock Web5 movement in Fuyang, Anhui, China. We invite developers from around the world to code answers to the questions of our time: How do we build a future that balances openness with efficiency, censorship resistance with inclusivity?
1. Rock Web5: Returning to Authentic, Meaningful Innovation
Our ideal is to change the world. Although this sounds like a joke, we’re serious about it — Jan, Chief Architect of Nervos
Web5 = Web2 + Web3: Combining Practicality with Idealism
Today’s Web3 is caught in a disconnect between vision and reality. On one hand, we have ambitious goals of creating a fully decentralized network society; on the other, we mostly see financial speculation and concept marketing. There’s a massive gap between Web3’s idealism and practicality.
Web5 offers a pragmatic yet visionary middle path. It doesn’t aim to replace Web2 completely but rather combines Web2’s user-friendliness with Web3’s decentralized values, particularly those of Bitcoin. An authentic Web5 needs clear system boundaries that distinguish which scenarios require complete decentralization and which can accept some necessary centralization for a better user experience.
Web5 isn’t an either/or choice but a constructional art where society and technology resonate together. It preserves Web3’s censorship-resistant values while embracing Web2’s accessibility and convenience, forming an organically integrated new technological paradigm.
Just For Fun: Rekindling the Joy of Technological Innovation
We believe the current crypto world’s predicament stems from a proliferation of false demands. Rock Web5 aims to break this cycle and return to the authentic applications envisioned in the Bitcoin whitepaper:
- Exploring the Integration Boundaries of Web2 and Web3: Clarifying which functions need complete decentralization and which can remain centralized for better user experience.
- Focusing on Emerging Scenarios and Digital Integration: Enabling developers to directly address real users and needs, uncovering massive application scenarios hidden beneath the digital divide.
- Building Meaningful Community Governance Tools: Helping various communities achieve more efficient, transparent self-governance.
In our Rock Web5 event, code is the soil, technology is the instrument, and “Rock” represents a dual rebellion against alienation:
-
Rock Dimension One: Returning Code to Its Essence and Fun
Let’s revive the original joy of technology. We seek to explore developments that excite both developers and users under the new Web5 paradigm: such as using the RGB++ protocol for digital preservation of cultural assets, leveraging Fiber Network to build networks that connect humans and AI across different scenarios, or exploring the integration of RISC-V open-source architecture with AI. Truly interesting code is a technological practice that sparks the imagination, not just the repetition of existing patterns.
-
Rock Dimension Two: Web5 Innovation beyond the Boundaries
We encourage development based on CKB’s Bitcoin ecosystem tools (RGB++/Fiber Network/USDI). Still, we appreciate how to organically combine Web2’s mature usability with Web3’s censorship resistance to create Web5 applications that solve practical problems and maintain technological ideals. Ideal projects should clearly define the trust boundaries of the application, placing highly secure components on-chain while utilizing existing Web2 tools and AI technology to enhance user experience, forming an organically unified whole.
In the future, CKB Eco Fund will organize a series of Rock Web5 events in different regions and cities worldwide, combining local industrial characteristics and cultural foundations. We believe true decentralization means enabling everyone to become a rule designer and a Web5 rocker.
2. Why Start in Nantang?
When talking about rural areas, why does everyone always think of farming? Young people actually have many more possibilities — Wen Tiejun, Chinese Rural Development Expert
Known as the “Cradle of Rural DAO Governance in China,” Nantang’s 26-year history of rural reconstruction resembles a rehearsal for Web5. While urban Web3 practitioners are still debating “whether to use Solidity or Move,” members of the Nantang Cooperative have already built a hybrid architectural social operating system through practice.
They use Robert’s Rules of Order to organize discussions (community consensus layer), blockchain to record work points (Web3 settlement layer), and WeChat groups to coordinate production (Web2 communication layer). This multi-level “grassroots” approach to decentralized digital governance precisely embodies the pragmatic path that Web5 seeks.
We chose Nantang as the first stop for our Rock Web5 movement because it embodies three cultural genes aligned with Web5:
- Dialectical Thinking: Not blindly believing in any single technology or concept, but flexibly adopting solutions that solve real problems;
- Architectural Awareness: The cooperative has explored an inspiring multi-layered architecture, forming a rudimentary Web2+Web3 system;
- Practical Innovation: Combining local needs with modern digital tools to achieve a sustainable development model.
Launching our event in a setting like Nantang allows developers to more intuitively understand how technology can serve the real world, thereby inspiring more meaningful Web5 innovations.

5. Conclusion: Playing the Web5 Rock with Code
While global crypto conferences discuss “the next bull market narrative” in five-star hotels, we’ve chosen to rethink technology in Nantang. Here, there’s no noise of liquidity mining, only the symphony of keyboards meeting reality. We don’t chase thousand-fold token myths but care whether a line of code can create real value, make data more secure, or free people’s digital lives…
We believe that true innovation comes from addressing and solving real problems, from the organic combination of technology and social needs, from the mutual nourishment of digital and physical worlds. We look forward to witnessing how technology truly embeds itself in the fabric of life, how it redefines the relationship between humans and technology through Web5 thinking.
This isn’t just a CodeCamp: it’s a journey back to foundational principles, an exploration to rediscover the true value of blockchain technology, and a quest to find Web5’s path to real applications.
