CKB Eco Fund | Spark Program Announcement for SoMo - Pixel Territory

The CKB Eco Fund Spark Program is dedicated to supporting community developers and innovative projects. Following a detailed and constructive review process, we are pleased to announce that the grant application for the SoMo - Pixel Territory project has been approved.

Project and Developer Information

  • Project Name: Pixel Territory
  • Developer: Telmo (@telmobit on Telegram)
  • Project Description: SoMo is a gamified pixel territory application designed to run on the CKB network. It aims to validate a novel economic model by leveraging the Spore protocol and native CKB features such as cell-based ownership. This Spark Program grant will support the project’s development of a testnet MVP and its initial seed user testing to gather valuable community feedback and insights.

Spark Program Grant Decision and Rationale

The Spark Program committee has evaluated the project proposal and has decided to provide a grant equivalent to $1,200 USD. The project is expected to be completed in approximately 8 weeks.

The primary reasons for this decision are as follows:

  1. Ecosystem Value & Innovation: The project aims to fill the gap of consumer-facing applications in the CKB ecosystem and creatively showcases core technologies like the Spore protocol.
  2. Constructive Collaboration: The committee recognized the project’s potential and, through a constructive dialogue with the developer, worked together to refine the project’s scope. The applicant’s professional and collaborative approach resulted in a pragmatic and well-defined testnet MVP plan, making it achievable within the scope of the Spark Program.
  3. Developer Capability & Commitment: The developer, Telmo, is a long-standing member of the CKB community. His proactive engagement in iterating and refining the proposal demonstrated a strong commitment to the project’s success and an understanding of the Spark Program’s goals.

Fund Management and Project Transparency

To ensure the transparency of the Spark Program, all grant funds will be managed and disbursed through a dedicated multi-signature wallet. The project’s progress, use of funds, and final results will be disclosed through official channels.

  • Project Multi-sig Wallet Address: ckb1qrg6n7rh4mfltcruh8zjkcdtjmgx7fg2u6yre3ls5fprmvyhdlyzzqvgh6e38vnnjy6v6242z7p9kg6h8et0wdcluv96g
  • Multi-sig Mechanism and Stewards: This wallet operates under a 2-of-3 multi-signature scheme and will be jointly managed by the following project committee members to ensure fund security and proper use: Devrel Lead Hanssen, Research Lead 舟舟, and Devrel member Yixiu.
  • Transparency of Disbursements: Details and transaction hashes for all fund disbursements (including the initial 20% for project kick-off and subsequent payments) will be publicly announced on the Spark Dashboard, the Nervos Talk forum, and relevant Discord community channels.
  • Communication Channel: The project’s application thread within the Spark Program channel on the Nervos Network Discord will serve as one of the primary public channels for communication and progress updates, fostering open information sharing.

** Project Support and Future Outlook**

The Spark Program will provide necessary support for the project, including regular weekly syncs, technical guidance, and promotion after completion.

We look forward to seeing SoMo successfully validate its core concepts on the testnet and believe its exploration will bring a valuable open-source example to the CKB ecosystem, showcasing the unique charm of CKB’s native protocols.

great to see people building… just on this first point on the rationale

im not really familiar with what a pixel territory app is - could someone explain a little more on this please thanks

Hi Mb2305,

In the context of @T_Silva Telmo’s SoMo project, the “pixel territory” is a gamified digital map on a grid. Each individual pixel on this map can be owned, claimed, and traded by users as a Spore NFT on the CKB blockchain.

For a deeper dive into the specific mechanics, the best place is the original proposal thread.

Thanks for engaging with the project!

thanks. the technical mechanics are probably above my pay grade if i am honest. I am trying to map this to a real world problem that needs to be solved. Maybe i am taking the “map” part of this too literally but is an application of this a digital land registry. Ignoring the gamification. Could ownership of property/land be a use case. So take the archaic systems we have in planning systems / land registry around the world and this could represent the tokenization of a physical asset (property/land). So fits into the RWA space?

What i am trying todo is encourage how we map technical solutions to real world use cases so that we raise the profile of CKB to other users beyond the deep technical level. As a retail investor for some years i am keen to see this team win.

Thank you for taking the time to map the technical concept to a real-world use case. This is exactly the kind of strategic thinking that helps push the entire ecosystem forward.

You are spot on. While SoMo is presented as a gamified experience, the underlying technology it’s built on, CKB’s Cell Model and NFT protocols like Spore, is perfectly suited for applications like digital land registries and the tokenization of Real World Assets (RWA). Your intuition here is 100% correct from a technical standpoint.

This kind of strategic discussion about future use cases is incredibly valuable. While it’s probably a bit beyond the scope of this announcement thread, it’s the perfect kind of insight to encourage other developers in the community to explore further.

Appreciate again for sparking this important conversation!
