An on-chain debit card with delegation on Nervos Network

Hello everyone.

On the advice of Charlie Kong Belbouille, I’m also introducing myself to you as a newcomer to the CKB world.

My name is Steevy REDEVAN and I’m a member of the French-speaking Telegram channel run by Charlie. I started to take an interest in the CKB universe in May 2024 and I realize that this ecosystem is becoming increasingly incredible in my eyes.

In parallel, I have also started to take a serious interest in Bitcoin and its genesis, in order to better understand how CKB is “linked” to the king of cryptocurrencies.

Now, I have a very serious question about the daily use of BTC for an average person.

With the development of BTCKB, could we imagine that an on-chain debit card with delegation, like the one provided by the fintech Baanx, could be used on the Layer 2 of the Nervos network, to pay for daily purchases with BTC, at all merchants or online?

Being your own bank is the very foundation of Satoshi Nakamoto’s philosophy when he created the Bitcoin project, isn’t it?

A physical or virtual on-chain debit card, which could be used via different networks (interoperability) and which could allow funds to be delegated from several wallets would allow:

  • To record transactions directly on the blockchain.
  • To automatically convert the dedicated crypto to Fiat.
  • The user to delegate a maximum amount they allow themselves to spend (funds remain in the wallet).
  • To offer an additional layer of security in case of loss or theft of the card.
  • To adjust spending limits at any time, without having to go through an external approval process.
  • To have direct control over funds and spending limits, without a traditional banking intermediary.

There you have it, I’m already using this kind of on-chain debit card with delegation on the L2 - Linea network of Consensys, by coupling my Metamask wallet.

Imagine being able to do the same on Nervos network and BTCKB. That would be cool for mass adoption, wouldn’t it?

Hello! I think this is a good idea, but I think also that the competition for debit cards that let you pay for things with BTC is high. Any idea what benefits that this would have to outweigh the costs (risk)?
