So my question is: Is there any good reason for allowing hidden profiles on Nervos Talk? Is allowing hidden profiles doing something positive for the well-being of the platform?
I think anonymous voting itself is not the issue. The issue is whether an anonymous vote should be socially interpreted through a reputation-based forum. When DAO voting is embedded in Talk, this ambiguity is almost built into the design.
Broader, irrespective of voting, does it makes sense to have hidden profiles on Nervos Talk? What good does it bring to us?
Having a public history attached to an account gives a perspective on the bias / technical abilities of said person / entity. Remove that and you remove context for the Community to interpret what’s happening.
Account activities are public, let’s keep their summary public

PS: Not advocating against throwaway accounts, just against the ability to hide public activity summaries
Just found this in the profile settings, I didn’t even realise it was an option to turn on and off.
I agree, there doesn’t seem to be any obvious reason this should be allowed and I can’t think of why a legit user would even want to do this.
I thought for a second that maybe it could be used to make anonymous posts if you changed your name and hid the profile, but I’m assuming the details of this post would come back when you unhid the profile again.
But this brings up another question and I don’t want to derail your thread here, but I wonder if there should be an easy option for (clearly labelled) anonymous posting?
There’s certain topics (I’m not talking about anything in particular ) that I’m sure some people sit on the sidelines because they don’t want to be seen as taking sides, even though they might have a strong opinion either way.
This is especially true for people like Jan/Terry/Matt who also don’t want to be seen as trying to influence discussions but still want to have their say.
