Following on from the initial post, I am now sharing additional information specific to the Community Keeps Building programme.
Community Keeps Building
As mentioned earlier:
Introduction
An initiative with structured tracks for community members to contribute their efforts and be rewarded with microgrants. This is for community members who are interested in the following:
- Content creation
- CKB activism
- Building on CKB
- Creating a new community branch
- Leadership
Each category will have its own progress pathway and will have structured activities that a) meet a direct need of the community; or b) advance personal growth in a way that benefits the community.
In addition to a set progress pathway, there will be “bounty boards” that contain specific bounties for participants to claim. Importantly, this initiative is designed such that each category will produce graduates who collectively shape the direction and management of that pathway.
Important to note: each track is designed for people with skills or evidence of performance in that area. The tracks will help them to improve their output and impact, and help them build a plan towards a subsequent Community DAO grant.
Bounty Board
A bounty board will contain in-demand activities or roles for which a need has been identified. These can be completed by anyone, even outside of the tracks. Completing multiple bounties for a certain track may qualify a person to formally enlist on that track if they don’t meet native requirements.
The CKB Bounty Board v0 is the first iteration of this, and is now live on www.ckbrewards.org.
Tracks
Tracks are progress pathways with set output and expectations, in return for a monthly remuneration.
The average time for a track is 6 months - in that time, a participant will have done enough work (“community proof of work”) to build up a resume of their activities, as well as build experience with relevant KPIs. They are then forwarded to the Community Fund DAO to expand on their activities with a larger grant request.
By being time-limited, the track is optimised towards encouraging progression, stimulating growth and avoiding stagnation.
Role: Content creation (informational articles, infographics, videos)
Types of activity related to CKB
- Written content: informational articles, how-to’s, explainers
- Infographic content: explainers, diagrams
- Video content: explainers, livestream, market sentiment
Track levels
Level 1 (Content creation only)
Suited to skilled content creators who do not have social reach. They will create content at regular intervals (e.g. twice a month) in line with scope and requirements set upon entry to the track. Proliferation of this content will be assigned to Activists.
Level 2 (Content creation and delivery)
Suited to content creators who already have a moderate following. Must have a minimum 5K followers on the relevant delivery platform. There is a bonus for creators on platforms where CKB is under-represented (e.g. Tiktok, Instagram, RedNote).
Level 3 (Content creation and delivery)
Suited to content creators who already have an established following. Must have a minimum 15K followers on the relevant delivery platform. There is a bonus for creators on platforms where CKB is under-represented (e.g. Tiktok, Instagram, RedNote).
NB: The minimum follower requirements are a guideline and may vary dependent on platform.
Role: Advocate
Types of activity related to CKB
Activism
- Social media activism to create awareness or engagement around CKB
- Participate in live discussions and interviews, speaking engagements
- Proliferate content produced by Content Creators
- Curate CKB-related information on major reference/analytics websites
Growth
- Build or leverage links with other ecosystems for cross-community pollination
- Build or leverage links with popular platforms (e.g. news) to increase presence of CKB (community marketing)
- Build or leverage links with suitable projects to facilitate interest in building on CKB (community BD)
Track levels (Activist)
Level 1
Suited to participants with a non-bot follower count (X) between 3K and 10K. Activists are expected to post thoughtful CKB content/analysis 3 times a week and amplify Content Creators as needed.
Level 2
Suited to participants with a non-bot follower count (X) over 10K. Activists are expected to post thoughtful CKB content/analysis 3 times a week and amplify Content Creators as needed.
There may be scope for bespoke arrangements for exceptional activists with follower count over 50K if they have an established and diverse following.
Track levels (Growth)
Growth activities are much more goal-oriented and are best suited to bounties, although there could be the potential for a formal community BD role (credentials based) within the structure of the Community Fund DAO v2.
Role: Builder
Types of activity related to CKB
- Growing the necessary skills to build on CKB using CKB Academy courses or other beginner level courses. Suited for developers mostly familiar with Web2, or beginner level developers generally.
Track levels
Level 1
The main purpose of this track is to compensate beginner devs for the time commitment of going through the CKB Academy courses or the L1 developer course. Completing the track will enable them to consider working on a proof of concept (Spark programme) or be directed to existing DevRel for more growth support.
Role: Pioneer
Types of activity related to CKB
- Start new CKB communities (Telegram, Discord, X) to support languages spoken by community members
- Translation of existing content to new languages
Track levels
Level 1
Starting and/or maintaining a community should come with a minimal remuneration. There could be scaling of that as the size increases but this prone to abuse with bots. Metrics for organic growth can be considered to address this. The incentive should be there for pioneers to want to expand the size and activities for their group with a view to eventually progressing to meetups and eventually seeking DAO support to fund group activity and growth.
Role: Leadership
- Participants are automatically added to a leadership pool based on one of the following conditions:
- Complete one of the other tracks (Content, Activism, Builder, Pioneer)
- Being a regional lead (CKB Off-chain)
- Existing admin/moderators
- Some aspects of this will become active after the first 6-12 months of the scheme running
- All paid leadership roles should be electable on a biannual basis.
- Members of the leadership pool can be selected for the following paid roles:
Potential roles
- Governance council. These are leaders responsible for growth initiatives and assessing needs with respect to the existing pathways: encouraging new content creators, activists, and builders; as well as setting new bounties. Their task is ultimately community growth. They contribute to a process of refinement of the programme, amending it to better address community needs. They help to approve/reject bounty requests of their pathway of interest
- There will be a max cap of 12 slots (3 from each pathway type). There is a small remuneration for occupying a slot. If numbers of eligible leaders exceed numbers of slots, the community will vote to elect the leaders. This will ensure accountability to the community and ensures there is drive from the leaders to be proactive and set the tone for community growth. Community governance can also change other parameters, such as number of slots and remuneration.
- Community moderator roles. These are responsible for ensuring discord and telegram chats are free from spam and are kept orderly
- DAO steward roles. These are responsible for the adequate moderation of community DAO proposal forums, as well as liaising with projects to ensure correct presentation of information, appropriate updates on milestones, and communication with the DAO clerk around release of funds.
- Eligibility to post campaigns on the community engagement platform (e.g. CKBoost) or to initiate a tip.
Payments
Payments for bounties will be set by myself (and then eventually subject to governance), but can range from $25 to $300 based on the nature of the task. Exceptional bounties may be outside this bracket but will be consulted beforehand. Payments are made in the CKB equivalent of the USD amount.
A payment schedule for the tracks detailed above is as follows:
Track | Level / Role | Monthly payment (USD) |
---|---|---|
Content | 1 (Creation only) | 300 |
2 (Creation and delivery) | 800 | |

Conclusion
Whilst some of the details may evolve over time, this is a decisive step in the direction of community empowerment. I will take further steps to increase awareness of these opportunities in the community and strive to produce quarterly progress reports.
